This increases the religious value of this Gurudwara and so the Sikhs from all over the place come here to pay their respects here and also seek blessings of the great Guru for any of their new activities or for important occasions in life. Most Sikhs like to offer prayers here before they start any important endeavours in life. There is also a common belief that they attain success in the activities that they start in this manner.
Facts
The Gurudwara is located in the Kashipur village that is an integral part of Udham Singh Nagar, a district that is quite famous for its factories and other industries that are thriving in the region. It is exactly located in the centre of the city making it very convenient for tourists who arrive by buses and in trains.
The history of this Gurudwara goes back to the days when Guru Nanak had come on trips to inculcate and spread the teachings of God amidst the people so they could see an improvement in their lives. In those days the people where going through a lot of hardships. This was because the river used to overflow in the monsoon times. Every monsoon they had to move to places of safety and at the point that the Guru was travelling, the villagers were ready to leave the village and settle down in safer grounds.
The Guru stopped them and advised them to stay in their homes and promised them that the river will not overflow. The river until then was called Swaran and Guruji stood on the banks of the river and flung a clod into the river. The clod was called Dhela in Hindi and the river came to be known as the Dhela River in the future. Guru Nanak started performing kirtans from the banks of the river and in the due course of the Kirtan, the river swelled. However, it automatically and immediately receded and after that never overflew again. This was the power of the words of the Guru and the people started living peacefully in the river side ever after.
This Gurudwara became very famous amongst the Sikhs and they started coming from all parts of the world to pay their respects here. It became a common belief that prayers made here will definitely be answered like those of the people who wanted safety of their homes. So, in order to cater to the accommodations of the pilgrims who come from far and near places, the first floor in the Gurudwara has been converted as a rest house and this has close to 30 rooms. Pilgrims can choose to stay in these rest houses while they have darshan here. They are maintained cleanly and are charged nominally, so pilgrims can have an affordable and clean stay here in the rest houses.
Commemorating the event of the Guru stopping the river from overflowing, the birthdays of Guru Nanak are celebrated with a lot of religious fervour and joy here. The birthday of Guru Gobind is also celebrated with a lot of fervour. The other important days in the Gurudwara are the day that Guru Arjun Dev attained martyrdom and the harvest festival of Baisakhi is celebrated with joy and thanksgiving.
