Gurudwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Sec
The gurudwara is situated in Chandigarh in the state of Punjab. It is located 9 kms northwest of Patiala city.Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is roughly 200 meters from Bahadurgarh Fort. According to some ancient narrations Guru Tej Bahadur during his journey to Malva region actually stayed for a night at this place. He was cordially invited by Nawab Saif Khan. It must be noted that Nawab Saif Khan was an avoid follower of Guru Tej Bahadur's pious teachings and sermons. He had met Guru Tegh Bahadur in the past as well. According to some ancient accounts Guru Tejh Bahadur Sahib visited this place on 16 Har 1732.
He stayed at the Nawab's attractive garden. However, the garden is no longer present at the site except for a few big banyan trees. Nawab Saif Khan requested Guru Tejh Bahadur to extend his stay at his place. Guru Tej Bahadur stayed during monsoon period. On numerous occasions, Nawab Saif Khan took Guru Tej Bahadur inside his fortress so that ladies get a chance to benefit from Guru's pious teachings and sermons. Guru Tej Bahadur left the place on 17 Assu to continue his journey. It must be observed that Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is built in the outline of a fort with an impressive 3storeyed doorway.
Architecture and Covered Area
The big wooden gate in Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib is actually placed in red stone frame below an ogee formed trefoil arc. The overall beauty of the structure is really striking and devotees get amazed by its sheer attractiveness. The big wooden gate is bordered on either portion by door sized niches. Moreover, first floor has projected windows. At the peak there are attractive pavilions. On the other hand, octagonal turrets are made all over the external wall at customary intervals. In the gurudwara there is a concrete patio with additional rooms. The chamber where Guru Granth Sahib is presiding actually stands on an elevated base in the center. It has a small room decorated with an attractive lotus dome. It is bordered by a marble-designed verandah.
The internal walls and ceiling area of Gurdwara Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib are made with reflecting glasses and have attractive filigree delicate designs. The structure is painted in small fresco where there are portraits of different Gurus. Furthermore, the divan hallway is actually at the rear side of the structure. Towards the north there is an impressive 90 metres Sarovar. The Gurdwara is administered by Shiromani Parbandhak Committee. The gurudwara is actually a contemporary construction encircling the historical memorial made by Emperor Karam Singh of Chandigarh.
