Gurudwara Nanak Mata Sahib Nanakmatta
Gurdwara Nanak Mata Sahib is one of the holiest shrines of the Sikh. It is located in Nanakmatta or Nanak Mata town in Uttarakhand. It is a historical place as far as Sikhism is concerned. There is a belief that the first Sikh Guru (Master) Guru Nanak had visited this place. The town Nanakmatta falls on the route to Tanakpur.
Gurdwara Nanak Mata Sahib remains crowded with the devotees and the tourists throughout the year. People visit this divine place and feel bestowed by the Grace and Bliss of Guru Nanak Dev.
History
It was believed that Shri Guru Nanak Sahib was going on the pilgrimage to the Mount Kailash in 1514. During his journey, he visited this town. At that time, the town was known as Gorakhmatta. It was named Gorakhmatta from the Guru Gorakhnath. After the visit of Guru Nanak the name was changed from Gorakhmatta to Nanakmatta.
The town Nanakmatta is situated near the river Saryu. The river adds beauty to this holy and peaceful place. Guru Nanak mediated at Nanakmatta and then he did some magical work for the development of this region. He stayed there for a long duration as he loved the place and the purity of it.
Architecture and Covered Area
The Gurdwara Nanak Mata Sahib is one of the attractions of the town. It is because it had been built with sheer architecture. The white marble was placed on the building wall and it gives magnificent look of this holy shrine. The mahants were taking care of Gurdwara Nanak Mata Sahib till 1937. After then, it was Nawab Mehndi Ali Khan who donated the land to construct the Gurudwara.
Location and Its Surroundings
The town Nanakmatta is located at the bank of river Saryu. There is a dam that is named as Nanak Sagar. The town is in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. There are three main places of importance. They are Doodh Wala Khuah (Milk Well), Baoli Sahib and the Peepal Tree.

By Train
Khatima is the nearest railway station to reach to Nanakmatta. The Gurudwara is about 15 km away from the railway station. There is a good frequency of trains as the station is connected with major cities. From Khatima, buses and taxies are available to reach to Nanakmatta.
By Air
There is a 59 kilometer far away airport from Nanakmatta. It is Pantnagar Airport. Private vehicles like taxies are available at reasonable cost to reach to Nanakmatta.
By Road
Nanakmatta is a well established town. It is connected with the good road facility and good number of buses is available for Nanakmatta from different cities of Northern India.
