History
Sirmour district had remained a politically volatile region even before the British arrived to India. It was a period while Sikhism religion had already started taking its grip in the Indian subcontinent. Gurudwaras were established in many locations in the undivided India. It was at that time period that an idea to build Gurudwara Bhangani Sahib came to the minds of the local Sikh communities. This was an attempt or an initiative taken during that period to promote the message of Sikhism in various locations.
An interesting story behind the establishment of Gurudwara Bhangani Sahib in the Sirmour district is that Sikhs had courageously fought with enemy forces with the help of local tribes. They all spread the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh. The Gurudwara was built with an aim to devote the several contributions of the Sikh Guru and his associates. This also indicated the thanksgiving due to the victory of the Guru in the battles fought for patriotism and to spread the message of Sikhism. Present day Gurdwara area is very much the same place where historic battle of Bhangani had taken place.
It was during 1688 battle that Sirmour came into the limelight with the battle of Bhangani between Guru Gobind Singh and local hill chiefs. It was a good initiative of Sikhism prominence in the region which also paved the way for the establishment of a Gurudwara being named Bhangani Sahib. It looks amazing today to see the Gurudwara nearby the banks of Yamuna River. The area is very much close to the Paonta Sahib Sikh shrine which is at a distance of mere 11 kilometers.
