History
Gurudwara Guru Gobind Singh Ji is located on the banks of Ghaghra which is a renowned centre of pilgrimage for Hindus as it is considered to be the birthplace of Lord Rama.
Ayodhya was visited by Guru Tegh Bahadur, Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh as a child at various times. On Saryu bank near BrahmKund, there are some three Sikh shrines. Nishan Sahib is the only platform fixed gurudwara and was constructed in 1972 and it is the only one which is devoted to Guru Nanak Dev. Until the year 1975, another platform was constructed which was memorial of the visit of Guru Tegh Bahadur. It was at the time when a room was built over by the troops of Faizabad's Sikh. On the death anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, there is a series of Akhand paths being conducted. The shrine which was devoted to Guru Gobind Singh, Thara Sahib was only the one to begin with. In between the nineteenth century, Gulab Singh who was the Kashmiri Sikh arrived and before his arrival, the Brahman priests took care of the three shrines. Gulab Singh occupied these shrines and later on in the year 1899, Gurudwara Guru Gobind Singh Ji was constructed on the platform of the site which was dedicated and devoted to child Gobind Das.
An octagonal shaped room was named as Singhasan Sthan which literally meant "a throne" of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It was surrounded by a platform where the sacred relics "the pairs of sandals" were kept and it was believed that Guru Tegh Bahadur had worn them. There was also a dagger, a steel arrow along with a chakar which had sharp edges outside and a steel quoit, placed on the platform. A copy which was hand-written of the holy scriptures of 1838 Bikrami was also kept. Although in Ayodhya, there are very few Sikhs, yet there are some Faizabad’s soldiers who usually visit on Gurupurab and Sundays.
