The Gurudwara Sangat Sahib is situated in Nanded city in the state of Maharashtra. The city has many Gurudwaras and this is one of them. The Gurudwara Sangat Sahib is connected in history to the Gurudwara Maal Tekri Sahib which is just a few kilometres away from this Gurudwara.
History
Guru Nanak had travelled in many parts of the country to create awareness amongst the people and to spread the thought of religiousness and when he was in the state of Maharashtra; he spent considerable time in the city of Nanded. That is the reason why there are so many Gurudwaras in and around Nanded. Apart from Guru Nanak, other gurus like Guru Gobind Singh have also had extensive travels across the city and they have an important part to play in the history of the Gurudwaras.
The Gurudwara Sangat Sahib holds an important place in the history of Sikhism and there are a lot of tourists who visit this place as this is on the list of the must visit Gurudwaras in the list of the tourists. The pilgrims can plan trips even if they have a shorter duration of holidays or breaks and visit the maximum number of Gurudwaras in and around the area as there are good connections between these spots.
History actually connects Gurudwara Sangat Sahib to one of the other Gurudwaras, Gurudwara Maal Tekri Sahib. As per the age old tradition, there was a lot of treasure that was buried by Guru Nanak ji in the Maal Tekri Sahib. It stayed there for a long time and remained buried for many years to come.
Later Guru Gobindji, during his time visited this Gurudwara and spent a good amount of time in religious discourses there. The soldiers needed money since they were not being paid their salaries. So, Guru Gobind advised two of his disciples Bhai Dharam Singh and Bhai Daya Singh to bring the treasure from the Maal Tekri Sahib. The treasure that remained buried was opened up for the good act of feeding the soldiers.
Dharam Singh and Daya Singh dutifully brought out the treasure and helped in transporting this back to Guru Gobind Singh. They used bullock carts to transport the treasures from the Maal Tekri Sahib to Gurudwara Sangat Sahib so that the commute took them lesser time and they could come back to the soldiers at their place and help them with the money they needed to get back home. Since they did not have more time to waste, all this was done and very swiftly and the treasure was bought safely to Gurudwara Sangat Sahib.
The treasure from the Gurudwara was excavated and brought to the site where the current Gurudwara Sangat Sahib stands. Guru Gobind was very generous with the treasure. He was always very concerned about the welfare of his team of soldiers and so offered them treasure worth of a shield. The treasure was distributed to almost thirty soldiers' families and this was done using a shield. Each family got a shield of treasure, to use for them. The shield that was used to measure the treasure is still seen in the Gurudwara.
Since Sikhism is famous in the region right from the days Guru Nanak had come here to spread the religion, the Gurudwara is visited by most of the Sikhs from various parts of the country. There are people from other religions as well who come to pay their respects to the Gurus. The Gurudwara is a white marble stone standing massively welcoming the pilgrims.
