Gurudwara Shri Majnu Ka Tilla Sahib
Gurudwara Shri Majnu Ka Tilla Sahib is located on the bank of famous Yamuna River. It is located opposite Timarpur Colony over Khyber Pass. During Baaisakhi, the birthday of Khalsa is fervently rejoiced by Sikhs in Delhi with full fervor and thrill. A big langar is arranged every year on this occasion where thousands of poor, hungry and needy people actually join irrespective of their creed, religion and caste. During the rule of Sikander Shah, a Muslim loner lived here. The person used to take people over the river free of charge in his small boat. He desired for a sight of God. The person got deeply lost in his inner thoughts that local people began calling him "Majnu". It is a Persian word meaning lover whose personality became emblematic of deep love in spirituality in Sufi literature.
Guru Nanak visited this spot and he gave blessings to the Muslim loner, who acquired holy enlightenment. He became an avid follower of Guru Nanak. The hermitage on the River Yamuna located on a small hill, came to be recognized as Majnu-ka-Tilla. Several people were fascinated by the divine traits of Majnu. In reality, beaming spirit and devoted love for Guru Nanak made this place as an astonishing missionary centre for followers.
History
Several Sufi saints in Delhi actually went to meet Guru Nanak when he was based atop this small hill. Guru Nanak held religious discussions with Sufi saints. Most famous among those who paid reverence and were extremely fascinated by Guru Nanak was Sajjada Nashin of popular Mausoleum of Nizamuddin Aulia. The hillock was also sanctified by the stopover of the 6th Guru Sri Har Gobind. Guru Hargobind was a lively personality who instilled radical spirit into Sikh community to make them true saviors of honesty and dharma. He encouraged his followers ethically, physically and mentally to defeat wicked designs and intentions of Mughal emperors to destroy rich cultural legacy of the country. Moreover, it was like a religious leader, who used to have two swords of Miri and Pin, spiritual and worldly, a mixture of Shakti and Bhaki, created soldier saints, to battle against oppression and domination.
It should be noted that the ideology imparted by Guru Har Gobind crushed the intentions of the emperors and changed the path of history from oppression to dignity and self respect. Furthermore, it was his determined and clever strategy of militarizing Sikh community that Guru Hargobind actually laid the groundwork of 'Akal Takht' opposite to Harmandir Sahib. Moreover, it is actually from Akal Takht that different hukamnamas, i.e. sacred decrees are given to Sikhs. The holy decrees should be followed by all the members and people of Sikh community. The holy decrees serve as a bonding force and a meeting point for Sikhs during hard and turbulent times.
