Gurudwara Angitha Sahib is located in Sector 62, Mohali. It is located in Sas Nagar district of Punjab. Offering an opportunity to meditate peacefully, this gurudwara has gained a lot of popularity. Two major personalities known for their spirituality have also added to the popularity of this Gurudwara. These personalities are Bhai Kuram Ji who was an ardent follower of Shri Guru Har Rai and Sant Baba Ishar Singh. The latter was the follower of Sant Baba Atar Singh Ji. Both are believed to have meditated at this place for a long time. They also worked a lot for the development of Sikh Religion. They worked tirelessly to spread the teaching mentioned in Gurbani.
Visitors can also watch a holy memorial location for saints to reside therein, which is constructed in remembrance of Bhai Kuram Ji.
Bhai Kuram Singh Ji was a resident of a village called Lambian. He belonged to the Sikh community and a follower of Guru Arjan. His great grandson Guru Har Rai (grandson of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji) moved to Amritsar with an aim to get a glimpse of Guru Arjan and to pay his respect. When he left his village, the mangoes, for which his area was famous for, were in season. He was not able to get them to his guru so he offered the same mango which was given to him as a Prashad. When Guru Arjan Singh Ji told him to eat the mangoes for now and his wish to offer mangoes to Guru will be fulfilled one day. After Guru Arjan Singh Ji died, Guru Har Rai took his place and received offering from Bhai Kuram Singh ji, by travelling right to the place where he was meditating under the tree which was blessed with large numbers of mangoes in the tree though it was not a mango season. Thus, at that place, where Bhai Kuram Ji meditated, people built Gurudwara and named it as Angitha Sahib.
Also, people trusted that the two main followers of Guru Arjan Singh Ji called Bhai Kuram Ji and Sant Baba Ishar Singh spent most of the time meditating here. Both these great persons worked continuously for the development of the Sikh religion by scattering the precepts listed in the Gurbani. A sanctified memorial place for the saints is also constructed at the area, in the memory of Bhai Kooram ji.
Bhai Kuram Singh ji was supposed to stay in the village called Lambian. A Sikh person who had a great devotion on all the gurus – Guru Arjan, the Guru Har Rai, and the Bhai Kuram moved to Amritsar and hope to get a glance of Guru Arjan and even to yield the respects if possible. But, when he left his village, he forgot or did not notice to get those mango fruits which have bloomed in that season for these Gurus.
But, when he reached Amritsar, he found many travellers who have come to attend the darbar (court) of his Guru, the great Guru Arjan, who is renowned and propagated in the wide region. The Guru's followers from Kabul have brought large luxurious ripe mangoes. Observing people getting mangoes, Bhai Kuram Singh felt very sorry that, though he arrived from the land where mangoes are grown in plenty, he could not get a single mango for his guru. While many people from his region brought large numbers of the delicious fruit.
Guruji gave a ripe mango each to all the people who gathered at the Darbar. All those who received ripe mango (Prasad) ate them. But, Bhai Kuram did not eat the mango, instead brought the same to the durbar in the morning as offerings to his guru.
The great Guru Arjan knew this and called Bhai Kuram and asked- "These are the mangoes which are given to you as a Prasadam, why have you brought the same here?", in reply, Bhai Kuram said- "Your Highness, I came here bare-handed and did not get you anything though I have come from the land where mangoes are grown in large numbers, so I wanted to offer this mango to you on this day."
Guruji later ordered him to eat the fruit and assured Bhai Kuram that his offerings will be accepted one day. At this location, Guruji blessed his beloved Gursikh and Bhai Kuram, who got peace due to the fulfilment of the goal by finding mangoes out of the season and slowly a shrine was built in this place called 'Bhai Kuram'. Another shrine is connected to the Bhai Kuramji which is known as Gurudwara Angitha Sahib (Phase 8, sector 62, Mohali) where the memory of Bhai Kuram Singh can be found.
