Guru Ka Lahore Bilaspur
Guru Ka Lahore is situated on the Sri Anandpur Sahib Ganguwal route leading to the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a distance of 11 kilometers from this particular route.
History
The history of Sri Anandpur goes way back to the 16th Century. This town was founded by Guru Teg Bahadur on the 19th of June, 1665. When the ruler of Bilaspur, Raja Deep Chand passed away in the month of April, 1665, the queen of Bilaspur beseeched Guru Teg Bahadur to remain in her land. Guru Teg Bahadur wanted to go to Dhamtan, which is about 200 kilometers away. But the queen convinced his mother and upon her request Guru Teg Bahadur decided to stay. Eventually, he founded a town by the name of Chakk Nanaki, the name of which he attributed to his mother.
Later, after Guru Teg Bahadur left for his heavenly abode in the year 1675, his son, Guru Gobind Singh came to Chakk Nanaki. He founded the new town which is known as Anandpur Sahib to this date.
Location
This holy place is located near the ancient ruins of Makhowal. Anandpur Sahib is considered to be a blissful place, surrounded by scenic beauty which is enhanced by the lower parts of massive Himalayan Range and the beautiful charm of Satluj River surrounding the area. It is considered to be one of the most sacred places by the believers and followers of the Sikh religion. This place comes second to the Golden Temple of Amritsar for the Sikhs. Such is the importance attributed to Guru Ka Lahore in Bilaspur.
Celebrations
Amongst the various other religious festivals, the one which is celebrated with much pomp and gaiety is the festival called Hola Mohalla. The 10th Sikh Guru by the name of Guru Gobind Singh decided that the festival of Holi is the best way to spread some love and display the spirit of unity and brotherhood. So he gave the festival the name of Hola Mohalla and ever since this festival is welcomed every year with magnificent celebration. People come in great numbers to Sri Anandpur to be a part of this massive event and seek the blessings of Guruji and the bliss which the place offers to all its devotees.
Best Time to Visit
You can visit Anandpur Sahib at any time of the year. The best way to travel would be by taking a flight to Chandigarh which is the nearest airport. You can avail daily flights from New Delhi to Chandigarh which is operated by Jet Airways or twice-a-week flights operated by Indian Airlines.
For railways, you can de-board at Ambala Cantonment and take any passenger train that stops at Anandpur Sahib.
