Gurudwara Ramsar Sahib
Ramsar Sahib Gurudwara has been situated alongside the Ramsar sarovar. This is one of the Amritsar’s smallest 5 holy sarovars. It has been located near to the Chativind Gate on south east side of Amritsar walled city. At present, Ramsar Gurudwara is marble lined topped through gilded and fluted dome. This was constructed in year 1855 at site of original shrine and long before here Gurudwara got constructed. Guru Arjun Dev was 5th Guru and he was searching for quiet spot that should be away from this Amritsar city.
History
It was in year 1603 when Harmandir Sahib got completed. In 1601, beloved Guru had chosen this shady, secluded spot that was 1 km away from bustle of this town that was growing around Harmandir Sahib, Guru were set for collecting hymns of first 4 Gurus, First Guru Guru Nanak, Second Guru Guru Angad, Third Guru Amar Das Guru as well as Ram Das Guru. Irrespective of the fact, there had been many cooling shaded trees and spot can provide all the calmness and quietness that was needed by the Guru, cooling breeze of Amrit Sarovar were not reaching to Gurudwara. In order to make his atmosphere more agreeable, Guru Ji have dug the small tank and he had named it as Ramsar after the name of his father Ram Guru Das. He along with his scribe, Gurudas Bhai spent years at the site and this was done in the semi-seclusion. Towards teachings of earlier Gurus, he have also added own compositions and also different selections from writings of many different Hindu Sants as well as Muslims Pir and which have been shaping the Sikhism principles from time to time.
