Gurudwara Pehli Patshahi Guntur

Gurudwara Pehli Patshahi at Guntur was established in this city of Andhra Pradesh, India, during the earlier part of the nineteenth century to mark the visit of Guru Sahib to this city. Pehli Patshahi is a term used for establishing the fact that the' first Guru visited this place'.  The term Gurudwara itself means the Gateway to the Guru, which accomplishes the worship place of people of Sikh faith; however members of all religions are welcomed with warm heart without restrictions in terms of caste, creed, region or religion.

General structure of a Gurudwara

Gurudwaras will be laid out in a particular pattern having a Darbar Sahib where the sacred book Guru Granth Sahib is placed and a Langar which is a kitchen and dining hall where the people visiting the temple can take food which is offered for free.A Gurudwara, depending upon the size and space, may also house a library, a class room and a nursery. A Gurudwara will also be identifiable from a distance as it will always have tall flagpoles exhibiting the Nishan Sahib, which is the Sikh flag.

All Gurudwaras need not have all these features, while any place where the Guru Granth Sahib is held and treated with respect expected of Sikh Rehat Maryada, that is Sikh code of conduct can be taken as a Gurudwara, whether it is established with a single room in one's own house or in a separate building constructed for the purpose.

How to Reach

Guntur is approachable through all the three means of transport, namely air, rail and road.

For reaching Guntur by Air, one has to alight at Hyderabad International Airport, where frequent flights will be landing from all over the world, although there is a domestic airport at the outskirts of Guntur, in a place Gannavaram, which has flights to other important cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata etc.

Guntur railway station is a busy point of rail travel, having direct connection with all the four metro cities of India and there is a proposal for Greater Guntur to have a Main Station near Arundel pet and couple of others at Nallapadu, Namburu and Reddipalem.  Tenali and Vijayawada are two other major transit points in Andhra Pradesh, other than Guntur.
