Gurudwara Sheesh Mahal Sahib
It was in 1627 that Gurudwara Sheesh Mahal Kiratpur Sahib was founded by Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Guru of Sikhs. This is the place where the seventh and eighth Sikh Gurus were born and it was here that the sacred head of ninth Guru, Sri Tegh Bahadur was brought from Delhi by Bhai Jaita with full honour and respect. Here Guru Nanak Ji is said to have made a visit and also the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind spent his life’s last few years here.
More Description
The sacred Kiratpur Sheesh Mahal Sahib in Rupnagar District of Punjab is located at about 10 kms south side of Anandpur and at about 30 kms in the northern side of Rupnagar and 90 Kms away from Chandigarh National Highway 21.
There is a reference to this place in the hit film, Veer-Zaara (2004). Zohra Sehgal played a character in this movie whose last wish was that her ashes should be immersed in Kiratpur. The sixth Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib founded this and is also known as Gurudwara Babangarh Sahib due to its sanctity and one can see that Punjab Government has put up a Pillar which reads the quotations from Guru Gobind Singh with a specific mention to the heroic martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadurji as the sacred thread and the Tilak on the forehead were protected by Lord Guru Tegh Bahadur due to his sacrifice.
Also, the Muslim saint Pir Buddan Shah was donated a very long life of 800 years and the Gurudwara is placed on Sutlej River’s banks and on the Nangal Rupnagar Chandigarh, this place is located and it is pertinent to know that the ashes of several Gurus were immersed in the Sutlej river and this system is being followed by Sikhs even today.
