Gurudwara Shri Nanak Piao Sahib
Gurudwara Sri Nanak Piao Sahib is ideally situated in the middle of Delhi, India. The gurudwra is directly linked with the 1st Guru Nanak Dev. He visited this place in 1505. Guru Nanak Dev actually camped on the border of Delhi in a particular backyard now located on Grand Trunk Road. The precise location of the garden is actually on Rana Pratap Road over Gurmandi, bordering State Bank Colony. Currently, there is a massive building to honor the visit of the sacred Guru who actually graced the spot 500 years during the reign of Sikander Shah Lodhi. Citizens of New Delhi used to visit and pay respect to the beloved spiritualist who delivered different sermons through poetry and music.
Devotees used to bestow Guru Nanak Dev with numerous gifts and pleasantries at this place. At the same time, pilgrims and devotees started worshipping Guru Nanak Dev. They started presenting different pleasantries to Mardana, guru's bard. It must be noted that Guru Nanak Dev used to distribute all the gifts and pleasantries among needy and poor. At this place, Guru Nanak Dev used to serve water to thirsty, needy and poor people. That well is still maintained and protected by the committee of Gurudwara Sri Nanak Piao Sahib. According to some prehistoric traditions every place or spot visited by Gurudwara Sri Nanak Piao Sahib becomes sacred.
History
Gurudwara Sri Nanak Piao Sahib actually attained the status of sacred shrine. Guru Nanak Dev spread the message of love, brotherhood, peace, amity and non-violence. The sermons created very vigorous impact on the mind of individuals who bowed for his religious attainments. In reality, the backyard became a spot of pilgrimage for pilgrims from where they obtained the message of freedom. A tale says that during Guru's stay at Delhi by his eternal grace revitalized a dead elephant. Afterwards, Sikander Shah Lodhi was informed about this incident that a blessed man had acquired the respect of all Muslim and Hindu divines in Delhi. It is speculated that when one royal elephant died and the corpse was send to Guru Nanak Dev for revitalization. However, Guru Nanak Dev declined the request. As a result, he was instantly imprisoned.
In the jail his deep sympathy for the pain of different prisoners had a big spiritual and moral influence on the officials. The officials informed Sikander Shah Lodhi that Guru was certainly not an idolater and as a priest he was deeply respected both by Muslims and Hindus. A bizarre incident happened during the captivity of Guru Nanak Dev. A massive earthquake shook the place in 1505. As per some reports Guru Nanak Dev was instantly released from the jail after the massive earthquake.
