He visited Delhi in reply to the formal request by Emperor Muazzam. Prince Muazzam actually sought assistance from Guru Gobind Singh in the war of succession for the important throne of Delhi. This incident actually took place in 1707. The intense battle for the important throne of Delhi after the unexpected death of ruler Aurangzeb in Deccan region propelled Muazzam to sought help from Guru Gobind Singh Ji. It must be observed that Bhai Nand Lal popular poet and scholar of Persian and an avid follower of Guru Gobind Singh requested Guru Ji to assist Muazzam. Prince Muazzam was the eldest son of late Aurangzeb.
Guru Gobind Singh had a very decent impression about Muazzam who actually obtained the discontentment of Aurangzeb by declining to attack Guru Ji at Anandpur Sahib. Muazzam was given the task by Emperor Aurangzeb to suppress the sacred activities of Guru Gobind Singh in entire Punjab. Emperor Aurangzeb obtained startling reports and stories in Deccan region from rulers of Shivalik Mountains against Guru Gobind Singh. However, Prince Muazzam made a detailed inquiry and found the reports to be false. According to Muazzam Guru Gobind Singh was a holy man and the real culprits were Hill Rajas.
History
Emperor Aurangzeb actually did not trust what Muazzam told him. He immediately sent his best generals to explore the real truth. Upon arrival generals also told the same thing to Emperor Aurangzeb. They informed that Guru Gobind Singh is a harmless human being and he leads an extremely simple and pious life. He is there to help the poor, hungry and needy in Punjab. The generals also punished some rowdy elements who were trying to cause trouble to Guru Gobind Singh. In 1705, Anandpur Sahib was once more besieged by joint troops of mountain chiefs and Mughal rule when Aurangzeb decided to dislodge Guru Gobind Singh from his area on the influence of hill rulers and some Mughal generals. After giving a hard fight Guru Gobind Singh was compelled to leave Anandpur Sahib.
In succeeding battles also Guru Gobind Singh had suffered huge losses. However, he had no animosity against the son of Mughal ruler and decided to assist him in the war of succession. Guru Gobind Singh was a good archer. He shot double arrows from a camp of cobblers around Moti Bagh. Both the arrows actually hit 'Divan' of Muazzam (Bahadurshah). Guru Gobind Singh shot the 1st arrow to proclaim his entry in Delhi. The 2nd arrow had a small chit stating, "It is not supernatural but dexterity of archery".
