While in Karnal, Guru Nanak Dev Ji stayed in a garden which had a small mound. He sat on this mound and recited hymns also known as shabads. There were many Muslim pirs who did not approve of this. They therefore complained to Pir Abu Ali Shah Kalandhar. On hearing this, he was angered and went to meet the Guru who was sitting against a wall. His purpose was to make an impression on Guru Nanak Dev Ji with his miracles. Before Pir Abu Ali Shah Kalandhar was able the reach the site, the wall on which was riding stopped moving and he could not move ahead. On realizing his mistake and at the same time accepting defeat went on foot to pay his obeisance to the Guru. It was Guru Nanak Dev Ji who advised him to shun all such practices and use his spiritual strength for the good of the people.
