Gurudwara Mehdiana Sahib
The Gurudwara Mehdiana Sahib is situated at a distance of about 30 km from Moga city in Mehdiana village, just outside Manuke, near Jagraon in the Ludhiana district. This Gurudwara is also known as the 'School of Sikh History' as this is the place where the followers of the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji requested him to write the 'Zafarnamah'. Gurudwara Mehdiana Sahib is known for its distinct architecture with colored monuments that depicts important events in the history of Sikhiskm.
History
In 1705,with an intention of reducing the influence of Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Khalsa on Sikhs, the Mughal armies sieged Anandpur Sahib. During this time, the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb sent a signed letter to Guru Ji offering him safe passage from Anandpur. With his two eldest sons, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh and Sahib zada Ajit Singh, and thirty-eight followers, Guru Ji reached Chamkaur, where they were granted shelter. Despite the assurance from Aurangzeb, they were attacked by an imperial army that hugely outnumbered them. Guru Ji managed to escape with three other Sikhs. They took shelter at a 'Dhaab' (natural reservoir) in Mehdiana as the nearest habitation was 3 miles away. After taking a bath, when Guru Ji was meditating, one of his followers, BhaiDaya Singh, asked him what they would do next. Guru Ji asked him to have faith in God. On being asked again, Guru Ji replied that he was only a mortal and a servant to God and his followers. Then Guru Ji made his mind to write the 'Zafarnama' for his followers. So the pilgrims believe that Mehdiana Sahib has Guru Ji's blessings and visiting this Gurudwara will answer their prayers.
Architecture
The Mehdiana complex looked like a dense forest, the Gurudwara was not properly maintained and it was spread over only a few acres. In 1972 JathedarJora Singh Lakha took the responsibility of making this a popular destination for pilgrims and later the Gurudwara complex covered 25 acres. Gurudwara Mehdiana Sahib is a fine specimen of Sikh architecture. Guru Gobind Singh Ji's deeds with his hymes are engraved on the walls of the Gurudwara. There is fine display of exquisite meenakari work here. Beautifully decorated Guru Granth Sahib is seated in the main building. There are sculptures and statues of Sikh warriors in the vicinity of this Gurudwara. These sculptures and paintings display the importance of preserving one's pride and self-respect.
