Other Gurudwaras in Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra is a region where the Gurus of Sikhism had visited during various periods of time and there are few other Gurudwaras worth visiting when one goes to this place.
- Gurudwara Raj Ghat Patshahi Dasvin is a Manji Sahib established to commemorate the visit of Guru Gobind Singh particularly during the solar eclipse of 1702. This shrine is of a single flat roof structure with a square hall, positioned at the edge of the holy tanks, where the Guru had had his tents for his stay in Kurukshetra.
- Gurudwara Chhevin Patshahi is another shrine constructed in honor of Guru Hargobind who visited Thanesar during 1638 for attending the solar eclipse fair. Guruji had also visited this place earlier, when he had spent some time here as he returned from Nanak Mata. People here had seen Holy Gurus, Guru Nanak and Guru Amardas earlier, who had all visited this place in earlier time. Therefore they were surprise to see Guru Hargobind quite unlike a holy man but carrying arms, with armed attendants. But they were enlightened when they heard his spiritual lectures later. The Guru’s stay here was near the Senayat tank and this place was later made a memorial platform. It is over this platform that this Gurudwara was raised in 1909.
- Gurudwara Siddh Bati Patshahi Pahili is a Gurudwara honored by Holy Guru Nanakji who visited Kurukshetra during one of the solar eclipse fairs. As per legends, he had drawn the hatred of the Brahman priests by arranging for cooking of meat at the time of solar eclipse, which was considered inauspicious bringing bad effects to people. Also eating meat was a taboo for Brahmins. Guru Nanak later explained them in vivid terms that the eclipses were the natural occurrences and they had nothing to do with food preparation or eating. This discourse that took place on the southern bank of the sacred tank and later Gurudwara was were constructed in that location marking his visit.. Although these Gurudwaras were destroyed later during the devastation during Mughal and Afghan invasions, new constructions were taken up later.
- Gurudwara Dasvin Patshahi a shrine located in a house in Mohalla Saudagaran which is a private property of one of the descendants of Pandit Mani Ram, who had hosted Guru Gobind Singh and got his blessings when he visited Kurukshetra in 1702-03.
- Gurudwara Tisari and Satvin Patshahi is a shrine to honor two Gurus, namely Guru Amar Das and Guru HarRai and this is situated half a kilometer northeast of Thanesar railway station. Holy Guru Amar Das had visited Thanesar during solar eclipse of 1553. The exact date was identified as 14th January 1553, by a contemporary scholar, as mentioned in one of Guru Ram Das’s hymns found in the Guru Granth Sahib.
