Gurudwara Raikot
Gurudwara Sri Tahliana Sahib, normally referred as Gurudwara Raikot Sahib, is situated in the town Raikot which is at 40 km distance in Southwest direction from Ludhiana City. This place also come under District Ludhiana.
This Gurudwara is famous because the tenth Holy Sikh Guru Shri Gobind Singh Ji had come to Raikot during 1705AD, when he was returning from Machiwara, via Alamgir, in the disguise of a Sufi Saint. He met Paali Noora Mahi and afterwards met the Pathan Chief Rai Kalle, whose help he asked for sending message to his mother at Sirhind. However, the trip became futile for the messengers, because by the time they went to Sirhind, Mata Gujriji and her two younger sons had attained Martyrdom. Guruji composed himself attributing the incident as God’s will.
It is at Raikot where Guruji prophesied the decline of Mughal kingdom, by symbolically digging out a Tahli plant’s root, although he assured Rai Kalle, who was also belonging to Mughal clan, that he would have his kingdom safe as long as he kept the Sword, Ganga Sagar and a Rehal that Guruji presented him before his departure from Raikot.
History
The tenth Guru of Sikhism Holy Guru Gobind Singh Ji visited Raikot after he came through Machiwara Sahib and Alamgir, escaping from Chamkaur Sahib. At the time he entered the City, he saw Paali Noora Mahi who was grazing the cattle at that time and asked him for some milk. Noora clarified him that he had already milked all the buffaloes and could not oblige Guruji. But, Guruji pointed out that he could milk from a particular animal, but this time, Noora said he did not have any vessel to collect the milk. Guruji then gave him a Ganga Sagar which had 288 holes around. Noora then started milking a buffalo with that Ganga Sagar only to be surprised with the fact that in spite of so many holes in it, the milk did not spill at all. At this point of time, Noora realized the value and powers of Guruji and ran to inform the fact to the Pathan Chief Rai Kalle. The chief came to the spot along with some of his companions to have darshan of Guruji.
Guruji then asked for another help, to provide him some horse rider to be sent to Sirhind to find out the welfare of his mother Mata Gujriji and his younger brothers. He immediately sent Noora to Sirhind, but when the messenger returned, he brought the sad news of Mataji’s martyrdom. Along with Mataji, her young grandsons too had been killed by the Mughal forces. Guruji accepted the reality saying that God had sent them to earth and has taken them back.
The Gurudwara Raikot Sahib has been established at the place where Guruji had taken out the root of a Tahli plant, symbolically indicating the uprooting of Mughal kingdom.
