Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh
Gurudwara Guru Ka Bagh is a house where Sri Guru Nanak Ji stayed with his wife Sulakhni Ji who gave birth to two children- Baba Sri Chand Ji and Baba Lakhmi Das Ji. Baba Sri Chand Ji is the eldest son of Guru Nanak Dev and this Gurudwara is said to be built in the memory of Baba Sri Chand Ji, and two great Sikh gurus- Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
The most important fact to be considered about this house is that Guru Sahib Ji stayed here for nine Months, nine days and nine hours and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji used to meditate here during that time. Guru Sahib Ji became famous as he planted trees here at Gurudwara Guru Ka Bagh which is the prime reason for this place to be named as Guru Ka Bagh.
Baba Shri Chand Ji was born in the year 1494 in the city of Sultanpur Lodhi of Kapurthala District, Punjab. But, he was brought up by Guru Nanak Ji's sister,Bebe Nanaki Ji, who adopted Baba Sri Chand Ji as her own son.
When Guru Nanak Dev Ji left the house and went out for his preaching tours called Udasis, Guru Nanak Ji's elder son – Baba Sri Chand Ji, youngest son Baba Lakhmi Das Ji and Nanak Ji's wife Sulakhni Ji came to the place known as Pakho-ke-Randhawe,. But, Gurudwara Guru Ka Bagh is a place where the entire family stayed together and led a happy life, though they all were supposed to travel many different places.
History
This Shrine was built to remember the first meeting of Guru and his son. During the 1970s and 1980s, this sacred building was constructed. Upon request of his brother-in-law Bhai Jai Ram Ji and Sister Bebe Nanaki Ji, the first Sikh Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited here in 1483 and stayed here at Gurudwara Guru Ka Bagh. This is the place where Guruji's two sons were born, namely Baba Sri Chand Ji who took birth in 1494 and Baba Lakhmi Das Ji who was born in1497.
Guru preferred to have Langar prepared by Bebe Nanaki Ji at this place. Well water, which was used to prepare Langar for Guru Ji still exists here. This holy place had been built in order to remember the works of Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Ji spent 14 years in Sultanpur Lodhi as a young man working for Nawab Daulat Khan Lodhi. Both the sons of Guru Nanak failed to meet the expectation of Guru and it is needless to say that they failed to be his successor. Guru Nanak Ji's younger son Baba Lakhmi Chand was involved too much in worldly affairs while, the other son Baba Sri Chand Ji surprisingly chose the path of renunciation and became an atheist. It is very important to know that this was the holy premises where Guru Nanak Ji led life with his wife and children during his stay at Sultanpur.
