Gurudwara Bhatta Sahib
GurudwaraBhatta Sahib is situated in the village Kotla Nihang, on the main highway from Chandigarh to Kulu and Kangra valleys, on the left bank of river Sutlej at a distance of 5 km from Ropar (now Rupnagar) and 40 km from Anandpur Sahib. This Gurudwara solemnizes the visit of tenth Guru Sri Gobind Singh.
History
In 1745, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was pursued by the enemies when he left Anandpur Sahib. On reaching Kotla Nihang, he asked the residing Pathans for shelter. He was asked to take resort at the hot brick kiln (Bhatta) as the Pathans thought of it as a safe place to hide. As per the legend, no sooner did the hoof of Guru Ji's horse touch the hot kiln than it cooled down. When Chaudhary Nihang Khan, owner of this kiln, was informed about this miracle, he rushed to the site and was astonished to see Guru Ji seated on the Bhatta. Overwhelmed by this, he invited Guru Ji to his fort and the latter gifted him weapons and left for Chamkur the following day. This was the first vist of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to Bhatta Sahib. In 1752, the engagement of Alam Khan, the son of Nihang Khan marked the second visit of Guru Ji. After returning from Kurukshetra in 1759, Guru Ji came here for the third time. After leaving Anandpur Sahib forever, he came here for the fourth and the last time.
The Bhatta Sahib Gurudwara is built on the site of the kiln by Baba Jiwan Singh in 1914.
