Bellam Pasham
Brief Description
Bellam Pasham is a very popular sweet dish which is most liked by ganapathi and is generally prepared at the occasion of Ganesh chaturthi. It is made of wheat flour and jaggery. The word pasham is originated from Telagana word.
Time required to prepare 10-15 minutes Time required to cook 20-30 minutes Serves 4 Ingredients For Bellam Pasham
- Wheat flour + extra flour for dusting : 350 Grams
- Jaggery (bellam) : 300 Grams
- Water as needed + water to prepare dough : 11/2 Liter
- Cashew nuts : 1/2 Hand full
- Almonds : 1/2 Hand full
- Raisins : 1/2 Hand full
- Sara Palukulu or chirangi : 1/2 Hand full
- Fresh Coconut Pieces Finely Chopped : ½ cup
- Ghee : 3 Tbsp
- Cardamoms Crushed : 4
- Milk : 1Cup
How to make Bellam Pasham
- Take a bowl and add wheat flour in it. Add enough water to make soft dough as for chapattis and keep it aside.
- Take the dough and make small balls from it. Now take a chapatti plater and make thin strands (talikalu) on it by stretching the ball and then rolling them with hands. Sprinkle dry wheat flour on the strands if it is sticking. Repeat the same process with rest of the dough but make sure that they are not sticky.
- Take a pan and add adequate quantity of water (11/2 liter) and bring it to boil.
- Take 1/4 liter of water from it and soak jaggery in it. Take a sieve and strain jaggery mixture from it so that dirt is removed from jaggery.
- Add talikalu in the remaining water and allow it to cook till it becomes soft. When it is cooked properly add coconut pieces, jaggery water, dry fruits fried in ghee and the remaining ghee in it. Now add cardamom powder and hot milk for taste. Turn off the flame and serve it to God.
- If you like serve it with ghee and extra milk.
