Pal Kozhukkatai
Brief Description
Pal Kozhukattai is a famous sweet dumpling of chettinad which is made of rice flour. It is generally prepared at the occasion of Ganesh chaturti. It is also known as milk modak. There are different ways to prepare it. Some people prepare it either by using jaggery instead of sugar or use normal milk instead of coconut milk. Whatever the variation is used, they are very delicious.
Time required to prepare 10-15 minutes Time required to cook 30-45 minutes Serves 4 Ingredients For Kozhukkatai
- 2 cups of Milk
- 1 cup of Sugar
- 1 cup of raw rice
- 1/2 cup of coconut milk
- Few Saffron threads
- 1 tsp of cardamom powder
How to make Pal Kozhukkatai
- Take the rice and soak it in water for about 30 minutes.
- Take a mixer and grind the rice to a smooth paste.
- Take a pan and heat the ground paste in it. Low the flame and stir it continuously.
- After sometime the consistency of ground paste will be thick like chapatti dough.
- Turn off the stove.
- Make small size balls from the dough.
- From 1 cup rice, 35-40 balls can be made.
- Take a heavy bottomed pan and heat 2 cups of water in it. Then add rice balls and cook it completely.
- If the quantity of water is reduced, you can add milk in it.
- Now add the remaining milk, sugar and coconut milk.
- Add cardamom powder when the mixture starts to boil. Turn off the stove.
- Instead of sugar you can also use jaggery.
- Use saffron for garnishing.
