    Chicken Malvani Masala

    Chicken Malvani Masala

    Brief Description

    Malvani chicken (Sagoti) is very famous dish of coastal region of Maharashtra. It is a very spicy dish completely based on coconut and onion based gravy.

    Serves 4

    Ingredients for Chicken Malvani Masala

    • Garlic - 3 cloves
    • Ginger – pieces of 1"
    • Green chili - 1 big
    • Coriander Leaves - 1/4 cup
    • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
    • Salt acc to taste
    • Boneless chicken - 1 lb
    • Fresh / frozen coconut - 3/4 cup
    • Dash of Nutmeg powder

    How to make Chicken Malvani Masala

    For Marination

    • In a blender, blend green chili, garlic, lemon juice, ginger, leaves of coriander, and salt together. Make a fine paste from it.
    • Now marinate the chicken pieces well. Keep it aside for about 1 hour.

    For Malvani Masala

    • Heat oil in a sauce pan. Add Jeera, spices to it and cook for about a minute.
    • Now add diced onions to the pan and cook the onion till it converts into brown.
    • Add frozen/ fresh coconut to the onion and cook until coconut gets brown color.
    • Now add a dash of nutmeg to the above mixture and stir it well. Keep aside to cool.
    • Once all this Masala becomes cool, blend it into the blender into a fine puree.

    For Malavni Curry

    • Heat oil in a sauce pan. Add finely chopped onions to it. Sauté until it gets golden color.
    • Now add ginger and garlic paste and cook for another 1 minute. Also add garam Masala, coriander leaves, and red chili powder. Cook for 2 more minutes.
    • Now put marinated chicken pieces to it, stir it well, add some water and salt, cover the sauce pan with the lid, and cook till chicken gets tender.
    • Now add coconut Masala, ground onion, stir it well and cook for another 5 more minutes.
    • Chicken malvani Masala is now ready to have. Serve it hot with rice.
