Brief Description
PoothaRekulu is also called as ‘Paper sweets’ as it looks like folded paper. It is a famous sweet of Andhra pradesh which is generally referred as wafer like sweet. Atreyapuram, a small village which is located in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh is very popular for making and trading this sweet. It is also prepared in other parts of Andhra pradesh such as Vizianagaram which is located in eastern districts.
Time required to prepare 10 minutes Time required to cook 35 minutes Serves 4 Ingredients For Pootharekulu
- Rice : 2/3 cup
- clarified butter or ghee : 1/3 cup
- powdered sugar : 2/3 cup
- cardamom powder : 1 teaspoon
How to make Pootharekulu
- Take a pan and add rice in it with adequate amount of water. Boil the water and allow the rice to cook until it becomes soft and mixes well with water so that it forms a white gruel-type liquid.
- Take a heated earthen pot and invert it. Now pour the mixture on its bottom and spread it with the help of a cloth. When it is prepared it will form a thin crisp layer of rice starch. Repeat the same process with rest of the rice.
- Expand each rice sheet separately and level it. Use melted ghee to spread the layer of rice. Now garnish with cardamom powder and sugar powder. Take another sheet to cover it and repeat it again till other sheets coated on top of each other. Now roll it nicely and divide it into rectangle shapes. Repeat the same process with rest of the rice sheet
