Brief Description
Doi Machh is the other name of the popular Bengali Fish Curry recipe. Bengali Fish Curry Preparation is very easy and can be learned by following these steps.
Time to prepare Thirty mins Time to cook Thirty mins Number of serves Six serves Ingredients for Bengali Fish Curry:-
Spice Mix:
- Coriander Seeds - 2 tsp
- Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
- Dried Red Hot Chiles – 2
- Whole Cloves – 2
- Green Cardamom Pods – 2
- Cinnamon Stick – 1 inch approx.
Fish:
- Fish – 1 Kg Cut Into Pieces Of One And A Half Inch Each
- Ground Turmeric - 3/4 tsp
- Salt - 1/2 tsp
- Canola Oil - 2 tbsp
Sauce:
- Finely Chopped Onion - 3/4 cup
- Peeled And Grated Fresh Onion - 1 tsp
- Minced Garlic Clove – 1
- Bay Leaf – 1
- Water - 1/4 cup
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Sugar - 1/2 tsp
- Plain Whole Milk Yogurt - 1 cup
How To Make Bengali Fish Curry Recipe
- Ingredients under the spice mix should be placed in the grinder.
- Make them finely ground.
- Mixture of turmeric powder and half tea spoon of salt should be applied on the fish.
- 1 tablespoon of oil should be heated in a nonstick pan over medium-high flame.
- Put some pieces of fish in the pan and fry until the pieces are light brown.
- Repeat the same procedure with the remaining pieces.
- In a fresh pan heat some oil and add some chopped onions.
- Fry until it turns brown. Add the mixture of bay leaf, garlic and ginger and fry the mixture for two minutes.
- Add the spice mix and cook for two minutes.
- Now add some water along with little sugar and one tea spoon of salt and stir properly.
- Once the pan is removed from the heat and slowly stirs in the yogurt.
- Cook on the low flame for five minutes and keep on stirring.
- Put the fish pieces and the remaining juices to the pan.
- Cook over low flame for five minutes.
- Remove the bay leaf from the preparation and serve along hot rice.
