Brief Description

Total Preparation Time Twenty minutes Total Cooking Time Thirty minutes Servings Four serves Ingredients for Machher Jhol:-
- 4 Fish Fillets Of Medium-Size
- 1 Red Chopped Onion
- 1 Tablespoon Of Turmeric Powder
- 1 Tablespoon Of Cumin Powder
- 1 ¼ Tablespoon Of Red Chilli Powder
- 2 Tablespoon Of Tomato Puree
- 2 Tablespoon Of Mustard Oil
- 2 Cup Of Water
- 1 ½ Tablespoon Of Salt
- 1 ½ Tablespoon Of Black Onion Seeds Commonly Known As Kalonji
- 1 Tablespoon Of Coriander Powder Commonly Known As Dhania
- 4 Green Chillis (Divide In Two)
- 1 Inch Ginger That Is Peeled And Chopped
- 1 Tablespoon Of Fresh Coriander Leaves
How To Make Machher Jhol
- First, wash the fish fillets properly. Make them completely dry and after that coat them with the salt and the turmeric powder. Keep them aside.
- Then, heat the oil in a spacious, large bottomed non-sticky pan. Then, add the black onion seeds to the oil, and fry it until you feel a nice smell.
- Now, add the fish fillets, one by one, fry each side of it for about 5 minutes or until they turn to golden brow colour. Set them aside.
- Then, add the chopped onion and the ginger in the same oil, and fry them for 10 minutes.
- Then, add the salt, chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder and the coriander powder to it. Now, stir it for 5 minutes.
- Then, add the fresh tomato puree and the required water in it; stir it well. Then, cover the pan and bring it to boil.
- Now, add the fried fish fillets and green chillis to it, and turn down the heat and cook it for 25 minutes.
- Now, Macher Jhol is ready to be served. You can garnish it with the fresh coriander leaves.

- This delicious fish fry recipe may be used as a base. You can add other masala powders, ginger garlic paste, pepper powder and many others to make it spicier.
- You can serve it with dal and the steamed rice as a simple meal. It will not either too heavy or too spicy.
- Now, serve with fresh sliced onions and lemons. It is really a yummy dish.
