Brief Description
West Bengal dishes are specifically known for specific dishes that are popular all across the world. Bangla Khichdi is just made with the help of ingredients like rice as well as flavored ghee. This Khichdi is popular among people not just in West Bengal but also in any other parts of the country. It is prepared with simple ingredients.
Bengali Jhal Muri Preparation Time
In order to prepare this dish you are required to have at least 10 minutes. Apart from that you are also required to have time period of 30 minutes. Following recipe has been described in order to serve the dish to four individuals.
Ingredients for Bengali Jhal Muri
- One Cup Of Good Quality Rice
- One Cup Of Masoor Dal
- One Tablespoon Of Chanaa Dal
- One Piece Of Bay Leaf
- Three Pieces Of Green Cardamom
- One Inch Pieces Of Cinnamon-Stick
- Three Pieces Of Cloves
- A Half Tablespoon Of Cumin Seeds
- Ten Pieces Of Baby Potatoes
- Half Cup Of Green Peas
- One Carrot Nicely Diced
- Two Tablespoons Of Ginger Garlic Paste
- Three Of Four Pieces Of Finely Chopped Green Chilies
- Half Tablespoon Of Coriander Leaves
- Half Tablespoon Of Turmeric
- Powdered Garam Masala
- Salt To The Taste
- Five Cups Of Water
- 3 Tablespoons Of Ghee
How To Make Bangla Khichdi
- In the very first step, you are required to wash all the ingredients like chanaa dal, masoor dal followed by soaking them for at least 30 minutes. One container is enough for soaking .
- In the next work potatoes are washed however these should not be peeled. These are cut in half. In case of unavailability of baby potatoes normal potatoes can be used. These are cut into smaller cubes however, it should be maintained that these should not be cut. Now potatoes are dipped for a period of half an hour in water .
- Cardamom, cloves as well as cinnamon are crushed partly.
- 2 tbsp of ghee is heated in the handi. After that cumin seeds, crushed spices as well as other ingredients are crushed. These are fried in the heated oil for at least 20 seconds.
- Now paste of ginger-garlic is added.
- Other ingredients like green-peas, garam-masala, carrot, salt according to taste, etc. are added followed by stirring it for gently for at least 1 min.
- The rice as well as dal must be boiled in the water container that has Five cups of it. however these should not be overdone.
- More drops of water can be added if required. Now it is ready to be served.

Water quantity depends upon the level of consistency you seek in the dish.
