Brief Description
Dhokla, the popular Indian dish is similar to fluffy flavored bread. Makai dhokla is similar to any other type of dhokla. The difference lies in the basic ingredient used in preparation of dhokla. Normally dhokla is made up of besan which is gram flour. In Makai ka Dhokla Recipe, you can use makai flour, that is, maize flour and corn flour, instead of besan or gram flour. However, traditional method associated with Makai Ka Dhokla preparation is similar to the normal method of preparing dhoklas, but the taste of dhoklas prepared out of makai is altogether different and flavorful.
Preparation Time About 30 mins Cooking Time 20-25 mins Serves four Ingredients for Makai ka Dhokla:-
- One Cup Makai Flour(Maize Flour)
- Half Cup Curd(Preferably Sour)
- Half Cup Corn Kernels
- Two Teaspoons Fine Paste Of Ginger And Green Chilly
- Quarter Cup Of Heeng(Asafoetida)
- Twp Teaspoons Sugar
- One Teaspoon Lemon Extract Or Juice
- One Teaspoon Eno Salt
- Two Teaspoons Oil
- Salt As Per Taste
For The Garnish
Proper garnishing can be done using chopped fresh coriander.
For The Tempering
- One Teaspoon Rai(Mustard Seeds)
- One Teaspoon Til(Sesame Seeds)
- Pinch Of Heeng(Asafoetida)
- One Tablespoon Oil
How To Make Makai Ka Dhokla
- Prepare dough by mixing flour of maize and curd along with half cup warm water. Mix the contents well enough to get a smooth batter. After preparing the dough keep it aside for thirty minutes.
- Now add ginger green chili paste, oil, corn, heeng (asafoetida), lemon juice, sugar and mix properly.
- In the mixture prepared above, now add Eno (fruit salt). Stir the mixture smoothly. Put dough into a thali of diameter six inches. Note that the thali should be properly greased to prevent adherence of dough after cooking.
- Steam the mixture for fifteen to twenty minutes.
- Take Kadhai or a frying pan and pour oil in it. Add the seeds of mustard, heeng and sesame seeds into the heated oil. Keep on frying till the seeds start to crack. Transfer the stuff over dhoklas already prepared.
- Put the freshly chopped coriander leaves over the Dhokla. Use a knife to slice the dhokla. Serve Makai ka Dhokla Recipe hot and enjoy.
Some Useful Tips
- Note that Eno should be added just prior to steaming the dhoklas.
- It is better to prepare the dough using your hands. It helps in breaking the lumps more efficiently while Makai Ka Dhokla preparation.
