Tipu Sultans Summer Palace
This was the palace that served as the residence during the summer season for the most famous ruler Tipu Sultan. This was where Tipu Sultan spent his summer vacations until the time he passed away in 1799. Every inch of this palace seems to breathe peace and tranquillity and one deep look at this will make visitors understand why Tipu Sultan chose this to be a place where he could spend some time in rejuvenating himself and his energies.
History
Hyder Ali, the father of Tipu Sultan laid the foundation of the Summer Palace of Tipu Sultan. Since he died before the completion of the structure, the same was taken to closure by Tipu Sultan in the year 1971. Because it was completed in his reign and because he was the one who used it regularly it became famous in the books of history as the summer palace of Tipu Sultan. The building is a standing example of the stunning architectural work of the Muslims. This makes us realise how aesthetically inclined they were and how very fine and intricate their carvings are. There are students of archaeology and passionate archaeologists who make trips to the summer palace to learn and discover newer architectural features and to understand the workmanship and talent of the designer. That is why even today this is the place to hold a lot of congregations and celebrations where large gatherings of people arrive.
Architecture
The best and most unique feature about the summer palace of Tipu Sultan is that it has been raised completely out of French rose wood and whether it is the sprawling balcony, sturdy pillars or the aesthetical archways, none of these are an exception. The entire structure is made of rose wood and is a beauty to behold. A part of the palace now houses a museum that tourists and history lovers frequent. This museum plays an integral role in explaining the lifestyle and customs of the people who lived during the time of Tipu Sultan to the current younger generation.
While the clothes that were once worn by Tipu Sultan are held in silver pedestals, the golden ones hold his prized crown. There are specific storage areas for these in the summer palace and this is a much visited spot by tourists. Silver vessels that were a present from one of the British Generals to Hyder Ali are also exhibited here. The tombs of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan are also found here. The garden that forms a fence around the palace completes the picture perfect.
