Alsisar Haveli is set at a 5 minute walk from the walled Pink city and a 2 minute drive from MI Road, the business center of Jaipur.
It was rebuilt in 1954. Renovations and restoration began in the year 2000 and were completed in 2006, when Alsisar Mahal opened as a heritage hotel. Alsisar Mahal has been painstakingly restored keeping every fine nuance as close to the original architecture of the old building.
The rooms take you back to the days when the Thakurs of Alsisar lived here with antique furniture and medieval Rajasthani style-fabrics enhance the Rajasthani look.
History
A sub-clan locally known as "Shekhawat" was founded by the grandson of Maharaja Udaikaran of Amer, Maharaj Shekhaji who was a great warrior and founded the clan over five centuries ago. The division of the "Kachawa" tribe of Rajputs owns the Alsisar Hotels. Many of the old family mansions have been refurbished and reconstructed and new features have been added so that visitors can get a true taste of royal grandeur and present day facilities. Located in the heart of pink city of Jaipur, Alsisar Haveli which was a nobleman's town house has been perfectly restored from its original construction of 1892. Among all the heritage properties of the Alsisar Group, the Alsisar Hotel is the oldest.
The clan account can first be drawn back to the time of 1737, when the fort was captured by the 1st cohort of Alsisar, Thakur Samrath Singhji who was the great-grandson of Raja Shardul Singh of Jhunjunu. The 8th generation of Alsisar offspring presently runs the Alsisar group of hotels.
The Alsisar Mahal was bombed by the Shekhawati Contingent led by Colonel Forrester of the British Army in their attempt to confine the immense Shekhawats who were recognized to be courageous fighters. One Fourth of Alsisar Mahal was devastated in this attack.
Architecture
The Alsisar Haveli incorporates the finesse of traditional Rajput architecture and is a sight to behold. Reconstruction gave the engineers liberty to merge with the present knowhow with age old technology. The reconstructed covering is earthquake-proof, yet exact to original construction. Hundreds of ancient pillars and supports were obtained to remain accurate to the structural design of the era.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit this Pink City to bask in its heritage is between October and March, when the heat of the sun is less severe and the weather is comparatively cooler.
Visitor Information
The hotel is located just outside the old walled city and is an oasis of tranquility from the busy Indian streets. The splendid Alsisar Haveli has a variety of 45 elegantly planned and discerningly fashioned, well furnished rooms with all contemporary facilities.
The current rooms are very similar to those that existed during the times of the royals of Alsisar. Traditional furniture, complexly engraved poster beds and feudal subtle Rajasthani themes on fabrics, delightfully augments the Rajasthani feeling and restores the taste of extravagant living. The mesmerizing "Sheesh Mahal" generates an atmosphere of lavishness and pure excess.
