History
Hari Niwas Palace is one of the notable historic monuments in J&K state. The last King of Jammu & Kashmir, Hari Singh took keen interest to build this palace in 20th century and for that he involved the finest of architects to build a palace where he could stay while ruling the region. It became possible in 1925 with shifting in this palace from previous Mubarak Mandi Palace that too was an important one.
King Hari Singh supported accession of J&K with the Indian Union soon after India attained freedom from the British colonial rule. It was a time while the former King was moving ahead to shift in Bombay (or modern day Mumbai). Transition period during which King stayed in the palace and spent last days in Kashmir was crucial.
The turning of Hari Niwas Palace into a luxury heritage hotel during 1990s was a big step to preserve the royal glory of past in Jammu. Descendants of the last king of this region took such decision to ensure that erstwhile palace shouldn't fall prey to ignorance or inattentiveness.
