Kuthira Malika

Kuthira Malika is also known as Puthen Malika Palace is situated in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The meaning of Puthen Malika is ‘New Mansion’. The palace was built by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma. He was a great poet, social reformer, musician and statesman.=

Kuthira Malika has been attracting the visiting due to its sheer beauty and ancient architectural wisdom of construction.

History

Kuthira Malika is a palace named from the 122 horses. Kuthira Malika also means mansion of horses. Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma built this wonderful and alluring palace in the 18th century. After the death of Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, the palace left unlived for more than a century.

Architecture

The Kuthira Malika palace has its own importance because of its structure and construction. It had been built architecturally by the great architectures of that time. They shed years to form this beautiful architectural palace. It had been given an ancient Kerala architectural touch.

Today, many tourists come here to visit this palace. Kuthira Malika palace has a museum that contains very ancient things such as musical instruments, traditional furniture, Belgian mirrors, Kathakali mannequins and more.
