Katni River

The River Katni is a river found in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This river flows through the Katni District in the State of Madhya Pradesh, it is a state located in the North-eastern part of India. The river was named after Katewa, which is a gotra of the Jats which is now found in the state of Rajasthan. Katewa had built a fort on the banks of river Katni for the Janapada of Katewa during their reign in that region.

Katni, also known as Murwara or Mudwara, is a town on the banks of the river Katni in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Course

The river Katni originates in the Katni District of Madhya Pradesh and flows from this region to Piprod and Mawai in the West. It also flows through the region of Bijeraghogarh and Doli in the North east. However, in the West it is seen as flowing into the regions of Dukriya, Ruhniya and in some places of the region of Kua. From Ruhniya it comes southwards and is seen flowing in the regions of Pipariya and the major town of Dhimarpura. The river flows from the regions close to Panna in the north till Bakal in the west.

Present Scenario

The river Katni has a number of projects attached to it. The Amkuhi River Bridge has been constructed on the Katni River. This River is not that well known but is an important river in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The river during the olden times was clean and one could even see till the river bed of this river. Since the population has increased in Madhya Pradesh to an exceeding level, there has been a development of industries and trading centers as well as factories, towns and urban centers. It is due to this that the river has been badly contaminated. People throw their waste in the river without even thinking what the ultimate reaction may be like. Waste from factories in the form of raw materials, oils, fly ash and other garbage has fully contaminated the water making it completely unfit for domestic purposes. However the people have no other choice and use the same water to irrigate their fields, washing, drinking, and other such domestic uses.

There was a campaign to clean river Katni but it was of no use. It is impossible to clean this vast water body that has been completely destroyed. It was easy to contaminate the river but it is very difficult to clean it and restore it back to its old form.

Views
