Gomai River
A tributary of Tapti River, which originates in Satpura Mountain range, is Gomai River, which has its origin at Maharashtra. It also has small tributaries passing through Sultapur.
History
The river Gomai which has its origin at Satpura Mountain Range at Shahada of Maharashtra and has been the second most important dugged site in the Maharasthra State. The history adds on to say that it was in 1955 that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) mined the site near the place where Tapti River and Gomai merge. The mining went on for about 17 meters deep and was traced back to 1700 BC and several sculptures and stones were found at about 6 kms northern side of Shahada in the Gomai river out of which the famous one is Pandavleni or Panch Panday. Thus the Shahada has a link to the Gomai River’s banks since 1700 BC.

Gomai River is a tributary of Tapti river orginating from Satpura Mountain range of Maharashtra and later joins Tapti River at a distance of two kms towards eastern side of Prakasha. The river also has small tributaries viz Susri River which goes through Sultanpur and Tipria River which passes through Mandane and Umri River and Sukhi River. The nearby cities to this River are Shahada, Sarangkheda, Bhale/Tisi/Nagaon. This river also serves the purpose of irrigation in these areas.
Gomai Dam is a popular dam on the Gomai River built near Shahada in the Nandurbar District of Maharashtra and more details of the dam are:
