Dhansiri River
Dhansiri is the main river of the Dimapur District of Nagaland. It flows through a distance of 352 km from south to north before joining the Brahmaputra on its south bank. The total area of the river is 1220 square km. Dhansiri River has been a blessing to the natives in diverse ways for many years. The river is look upon as a Mother by farmers. She has been an enormous storehouse for fishes and other amphibians. The view of the flowing water is soothing to the eyes and calm desires. The sight of the river gives the vary identity of Dimapur as a place.

Dhansiri is the main river of Golaghat District of Assam as well. It originates from Laisang peak of Nagaland. The river flows through a distance of 352 km from south to north before joining the Brahmaputra on its south bank. Its total area is 1220 square km. Dhansiri flows through the south western part of the state through Rangapahar-Dimapur Plains of Dimapur District. The river receives almost all the western and southern drainages of Nagaland.
It flanks a large wilderness very rich in wildlife while flowing as the boundary between Karbi Anglong and Nagaland. On one side is the Intanki National Park and on the other Dhansiri Reserved Forest. It has different types of important wood bearing trees along its bank like Itanki Forest. The Dhansari River along with Kapili by headward erosion has isolated the Mikir hills totally from the peninsular plateau. There are various perennially waterlogged swampy regions. The regions are locally known as bils associated with this river. The main tributaries of this river are river Dzuza and Diphu.
A major south bank tributary of the river Brahmaputra flows through Golaghat District and supposed to carry the discharge from Numaligarh refinery. Dhansiri River rises from Karbi-Anglong District of Assam and Nagaland Border.
River Dhansiri at Keshardubi
River Dhansiri is located near the bamboo bridge across the River connecting villages of Tengani and Nambar etc. The opposite bank of River Dhansiri is close to Nagaland and North Cachar Hills. Elephant, Tiger and Deer are found in this area.
River Dhansiri Numaligarh
It is near the Jetty of Numaligarh Refinery.
River Dhansiri, Dhansirimukh
Dhansirimukh is the union point of River Brahmaputra. This site on river Dhansiri was selected before confluence at boating ghat near Golaghat and Nagaon District border. Birds and wild ducks are seen here. The surrounding land is used for grazing. The Kaziranga National Park ranges are located towards Nagaon on the riverbank. The sampling site is towards Golaghat bank.
Tributaries
At the extreme southwest of the state, it forms a natural boundary with North Cachar Hills of Assam which finally drains into the Brahmaputra. Its main tributaries are river Dzuza and Diphu. Dhansiri flows through the southwestern part of the state through Rangapahar-Dimapur Plains of Dimapur District. Dhansiri River receives almost all the western and southern drainages of Nagaland. It believes a northwardly course forming a natural boundary with North Cachar Hills of Assam which finally drains into the Brahmaputra at the extreme southwest of the state.
River Diphu
River Diphu is a rivulet that originates from the Karbi Anglong hills of Assam. It passes through the Kaziranga National Park and joins the River Brahmaputra on its south bank.
