Bhagirathi River
Bhagirathi River is one of the prominent rivers in India. Originated from the Himalayan Range, this river flows through Uttarakhand region. Considered to be the main tributary of the Holy River, Ganges, this is a prominent river found in Northern India. The story behind this river is quite interesting. Bhagirath was one of the princes belonging to the Sagar Dynasty. During Ashwamedh Yagna organized by King Sagar, Holy Cow Kapila was stolen by Kings’ sons. As a result of this thievery, Sage Kapil converted Sagar’s sons into ash in a fit of rage. Later, Bhagirath indulged in strict penance and brought River Ganga to the Earth in order to make his forefathers alive. This is how River Ganga came on this Earth.
Many people belonging to different walks of life visit the Bhagirathi River just to see the famous river that was sent to release or set the ancestors of the Prince free. Course
River Bhagirathi has believed to have been originated from Gaumukh. This place is located in the foothills of Gangotri Glacier. Many tributaries join this highly turbulent river. Some of these tributaries are Kedar Ganga, Jadh Ganga, Jalandhari Gad, Kakora Gad, Asi Ganganear and many others. From its origin, the river flows at a high speed and meets River Alaknanda at Devprayag. When it reaches the plains, it comes to be known as River Ganges considered to be the holiest river in India.

Asi Ganganear Uttarkashi with height of 1,158 meters
Bhilangna River
The Bhilangna River rises at the base of the Khatling glacier with a height of 3,717 meters about 50 kilometers south of Gaumukh. This river surges from its source from 205 kilometers prior to it assembles with the Alaknanda River at a height of 475 meters in the Devprayag town.
Tehri Dam
This is one of the most controversial dams ever in the whole of India. Well, the Tehri dam lies at the convergence of the Bhagirathi and Bhilangna at 30o78o28’48”E closest to Tehri.
