Doyang River

Doyang River is among the longest rivers of Nagaland situated in the district Wokha. Tsui, Tishi and Tullo are the major tributaries of this river. Doyang River comes from the north. Then turns towards east and meets the River Saju. Water of the Tangki and Keleki streams merge into the Tsui. Tishi meets the river in Sema area. The Doyang River is one of the most important rivers in the district. Doyang is the longest rivers which run near the state’s southern boundary. The river is one of the main resources of water for intimates in different areas of the district. It creates the downstream very lush with fruits and vegetables along with River Saju. The river valley has striking surroundings which are perfect for nature followers. From Wokha Doyang River go into Zunheboto district before going further downstream, it falls into Dhansiri river.

Courses

The river Doyang first flows almost due north and slightly turns in the direction of east. The river then enters Zunheboto district flowing north westwardly. The river then forms border line between Lotha and Sema areas. It makes westward bend and merged with the western Lotha area in Wokha district in the west of Litami and proceeds to the southern border of the district. It then turns west and then debouches the hills west of Koro village. Finally it falls into Dhansiri river of Assam valleys. Numerous streams from the hills fall into the river from the central and the western parts and give it a charming look. Doyang is the largest river in the district. Doyang is not only important river for Wokha district alone but it is also equally an important river of Nagaland. Two other significant rivers, Chubi and Nzhu are also the tributaries of Doyang River. The major tributaries of the river are Tsui, Tishi and Tullo. This river enters the district of Zunheboto flowing towards north-west. The river ends in Dhansiri River after travelling throughout Koro village. River Doyang is among the most famous rivers in Nagaland which flows about 21 kilometres through the district Wokha from the town. Many streams from the hills fall into the river from the western and central parts and provide a very charming look. Cultivation of Terrace is performed on the valleys nearby Doyang River. The river enters Zunheboto district and flows towards the north-west. It creates a boundary line between Lotha and Sema areas. Travelling through the village Koro, the river falls in the Dhansiri of Assam valleys. Tourists can also go to the nearby village Pangti. The modern system of cultivation is being executed in this place.

Tributaries

From the hills, the Streams of the Doyang River fall into the river from the central and western parts and give it a charming look. On the valleys surrounding Doyang River, cultivation is carried out in modern ways. Chubi and Nzhu are two other important rivers. They are also tributaries of the Doyang. However, the major tributaries of this river are Tsui, Tishi and Tullo. Apart from an important river for Wokha district, the Doyang River is also equally an crucial river of Nagaland.

Chubi River

The Chubi River, the second largest river of this district flows from Mokokchung district towards south and joins the Doyang River.

Nzhu River

The Nzhu River flows in the south east region of the district and go up from the Nerhema area situated in Kohima district. The river flows from Miphong which is situated in the area Rengma. Nzhu River joins the Doyang River and flows into the area Latsu after crossing the south-western border. The river offers a beautiful view of the surroundings. This river rises from the Nerhema area under Kohima district and the flows through Miphong in the Rengma area. It then covers the entire south-eastern portion of the district. It flows towards the south western border of the district across the Phiro Shaki area and joins the Doyang River at Lotsu area of the district. The river is also an important tributary of the Doyang River.
