Karnaphuli River
It is the biggest and very precious river near Chittagong and it flows near the hill tracks of Chittagong. The Karnfuli River starts its long journey from Lushi hills which are in the northward sides of India in Mizoram state. This river is really precious for this state because it covers total 180 km’s distance and it passes through the hills and wildness.
It creates a sharp loop near at Rangmati and then it run through a zigzag route. After that this river creates more two different popular loops, one is known as Dhuliachhari and other one is Kaptai. May be you are not aware about it that Rangamati and Dhuliachhari spheres are presently into the bank of other one Kaptai sphere area’s Dam.
As we have the details we can say that the hydroelectric dam preciously established right near the opening gate of the river towards Kaptai loop. As the river crosses to this loop, it becomes bigger and it flows faster. After that it flows via the Sitapahar hills area and it easily goes athwart the plain side of the town known as Chittgong. This all happens as the river rises from the mountains of Chandraghona. This is the reason for which river remains deplete at the area of Bay Bengal.
It cuts plenty of mountain ranges, some of them are known as the viz Barkal, Patiya and many others. Further this river is very straight and it passes thorough many important places. A mistake is responsible for the straightness of this river. That has managed a canal, which starts from Prankiang and that canal end at Wagga. This river covers a very precious part of Mizoram state and there are many important historical things related to the Karnfuli River.
People of Mizoram say that there is a myth related to giving the name Karnafuli to this river. That myth may be probably true, but not exactly proved. People say that there was an Arakanese princess and an ethnic prince or place known as Chittagong. They both were in love with each other. They were having the pleasure in moonlight boat trip. The princess was enjoying the shade of moon into the water and it was looking like moon is on the plane of water. Suddenly the princess seen an attractive flower and she tended a little to get that flower. As she got that flower and placed it over her ear, it was fallen among the water instantly. She became upset because of falling the flower into the river and that pretty princess also jumped into the water to get that flower back, but she didn’t have that flower. The river was flowing very fast, so the princes were also flown away with it. As the prince seen it, he also jumped to save his princess. He didn’t get succeeded in saving her and he also did suicide to meet his princess after his death. It was really so terrible for the people of their state and like this the name Karnfuli was given to that river. The right sense of river’s name is the blossom decorated ear.
Course
This river starts to flow from the Lushai mountains of northern India. It is the part of Mizoram state; this river forms a fine loop at Rnagamati. After this the river flows in wander way and makes two more loops. The names of those loops are shown above into the introduction of the river. Into the further journey the river runs in a different twisted way via the mountains of Sitpahar. After that it goes crosswise of the plain of Chittagong. Due to it the river saps among the Bay of Bengal. In its long journey of 180 km the river visits through many mountains and wild areas. This river has preciously preserved its way of course keeping speed among mountains and terrible ways. It provides enough water to its route area and the wild life is growing there preciously with the help of Karnfuli River. There are some dams are also established on this river to utilize its energy and speed. It is quite helpful in farming and livings of Mizoram.

In western side the river has Rangunia along with it in the northern side the river has Raozan upazila. As you will move toward south you will find Boalkhali upzila. In the further journey the river mixes with Halda River, at the place named as Kaluraghat.
Present Scenario
The present status of Karnfuli River is quite good and there a very famous dam is also build up, known as Kaptai dam and the river also forms some other useful loops in its journey. The state government of Mizoram has prepared a plane to more utilize the river and it is as a gift of god in this region.
How to Reach
To arrive at this river you go to Mizoram by train and then a short bus journey will bring you near the Karnfuli River. There are many tourist spots near the river and state government is supporting people to maintain the beauty of this river.

Indian people mainly depend on the rain for farming and after that on the rivers. This river is really precious in this area. The Kaptai dam is quite helpful in northward side of India. It is established on Karnafuli River’s hydroelectric power station. The dam was made up in year 1962. This is the only hydro electric power station in this country. It is regularly serving to generate the power. This thing enhances the value of Karnafuli River greatly.
