Rihand River
This Rihand River is regarded as the important tributary of River Son and it flows through different Indian states that come under Chhattisgarh as well as Uttar Pradesh.
Course
This Rihand River arises from the Matiranga hills in south-western region of Mainpat plateau and is located 2000 meters above the sea level. This river flows in north direction roughly via central part of the Surguja district for 150 kms (90 mi). The Rihand river along with its tributaries forms a fertile plain in central region of district and that stretches from Ambikapur till Lakhanpur and then till Pratappur. After that it flows in the northern direction till Sonbhadra district in Uttar Pradesh through the Singrauli district that comes under Madhya Pradesh and there it is known by the name of Rhed and then it will joining the Son.
Tributaries
Some of its important tributaries include Morana, Mahan, Gagar, Gobri, Ramdia, Geur and Galphulla. Most of the perennial and seasonal rivers will be joining Rihand reservoir and this includes Mayar, Kanchan and also Azir of the Singrauli district, Madhya Pradesh.
Present Situation
Rihand dam was constructed across Rihand River and this is nearer to Pipri that lies in the Sonbhadra district which is under the Mirzapur division of year 1962. This had been constructed for the purpose of hydropower generation and the reservoir behind this dam has been known by the name of Govind Ballabh Sagar. Renukoot is the nearest station. This river has a fall called as Rakashgand fall and this comes under Sarguja district-Chhatisgarh. This is one of the important falls from the tourist view point.
