About
This Kanhar River is regarded as the tributary of Son River and flows from various Indian states such as Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Course
This Kanhar River originates from the Gidha- Dhodha and is present on Khudia Plateau. It is located at Jashpur District, Chhattisgarh. It intially starts from the northern direction and forms a boundary along with the Garhwa districts that lies in the Jharkhand Palamu division. Then, it flows for approximately hundred kilometres that is 60 mi via Surguja District, Chhattisgarh. Moreover, it runs in a parallel direction towards Son, Garhwa district and turn towards the north western region and flows through the Sonbhadra district. This is situated in the Mirzapur division- Uttar Pradesh state. It gets its confluence with River Son present in north-eastern direction of Kota Village. This comprises of Rocky bed all over its course. One of the torrent rapid mountains flows via this forested area and this is one of the dangerous streams.
Tributaries
This Kanhar river is having following tributaries and they are- Lanva, Theme, Hathinala, Riger, Pandu, Kursa, Suria, Sendur, Galphulla, Goita, Chana and also Cherna nallah.
Present Situation
At present, Kanhar Hydroelectric Project as well as Kanhar development river scheme has got centered on this Kanhar Reservoir present at the Baradih located at Garhwa district. It also has another reservoir/dam and it is situated near Chinia Village. This Sinchal Kanhar Pariyojana is located at the downstream of confluence of Pagan River along with Kanhar nearby Sugawaman Village in Dudhi Tehsil located near the Sonbhadra district.
