Bansloi River

The River Bansloi initiates from the Bans Hill in the district of Sahibganj in Jharkhand. Bansloi River runs down from the district of Pakur situated in Jharkhand also in Birbhum & Murshidabad district of the West Bengal and then flows into Bhagirathi, a district situated in the north region of Jangipur. The half side of the western region of Murshidabad slants eastwards in the direction of Bhagirath. There are many watercourses in the region that gets interrupted path towards the river due to wetlands and swamps. The big wetland also works as an artificial lake at the time of flood absorbing surplus water carried down by the watercourses originating from them.

Course

There are many rivers that initiates from the table land of Chota Nagpur which also comprises of Bansloi River which pours into Birbhum district, These Rivers then arrives in the district of Murshidabad and Bardhaman prior to connecting with Bhagirath. Due to high rainfall in the area these rivers then generate water in the form of artificial lake in the small village of Kalna and Jangipur due to their restricted carrying capacity of the Bhagirathi River. In this spread Bhagirathi river has released highest carrying capacity, up to 3100 m3/s. In case of extreme rainfall in all the areas, the river will overflow and generate the capacity of up to 17000 m3/ s at the channel of Bhagirathi River. Such overflow takes place on regular bases.

Tributaries

Bansloi River is a tributary of the River Bhagirathi. Bhagirathi originates from the Himalayas situated in the Uttaranchal. Together Bansloi River surrounds the area of around 2200 Kilometres. Bansloi River stroll through Murshidabad district and combines into Bhagirathi River.

How to Reach

Bansloi River is situated Sahebganj which does not have any bus stand hence the nearest bus stand is Malda Sahibganj from Malda is situated from 56 kilometres . Sahibganj is well connected through rail route and various trains are well connected to Sahibganj railway station. The nearest airport to Sahibganj is Bagdogra.

Views

Sahibganj is the most attractive place in Jharkhand is one the must visit places of Jharkhand. Apart from Bansloi River there are many other places tourist gets attracted to, like Mangal Hat-it is an iconic place where Jama Masjid is situated. One can also enjoy scenic view of Moti waterfall or Moti Jharna situated in Sahibganj, it is one of the renowned picnic destinations for tourists. There are many other famous temples in Sahibganj including Shivgadi temple. Sahibganj well known to be close to nature one can visit famous Udhwa lake bird sanctuary and Palamau Tiger reserve to experience wild life.
