Ghod River
Pune District in Maharashtra carries the Ghod River which has its origin towards eastern slopes of Western Ghats. It lays at about 3500 feet above the sea level. Before merging with Bhima River, towards the east-south east direction the Ghod River flows for over 200 kms.
Facts
The origin of the River Ghod in Maharashtra goes back to several years before the history and Kukadi River is said to be one of the tributaries of the Ghod River. Further, one can see the river flowing from the northern side of Bhimashankar Hills. Ghod itself is a tributary of River Bhima, with which it merges. The original history of archaeological findings also refers to the Post Harappan Agrarian Villages to have been found along the river side of Ghod.

Ghod River which originates from Pune in Maharasthra State has found to be being a major river used by the nearby inhabitants for irrigation purpose. Also, the river which originates from the Western Ghats at about 1090 meters above the sea level has a dam called Ghod Dam more details of which are as under:

Volume Content-1,020 km3 (240 cu mi)
Storage capacity-216,300.00 km3 (51,893.13 cu mi)
Also, the dam called Chinchani dam is constructed across the river Ghod which has a capacity of 5.47 TMC. The nearby cities to the River Ghod are –Ukkadgaon, Shirur, Loknete, Sambhaji anna bhujbal nagar. Also the cities viz Daund, Shrigonda and Barmati are the other nearby cities worth mentioning which also get the benefit of the Ghod River and its Dam.
