Vembanad Rail Bridge
Vembanad Rail Bridge is positioned in the state of Kerala and this rail bridge connects Edappally and Vallarpadam in Kochi. This rail line is devoted only for shipment. This rail bridge is constructed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd, a government of India project.
Geography
The relation from Edappally to Vallarpadam initiate from Edappally running 3 km equivalent to an accessible line until it reaches Vaduthala. The rail track then passes through the Vembanad Bridge crossing 3 small islands to arrive at Vallarpadam.
The materials being used to construct this bridge includes 58000 tones of cement, 73500 cubic meters of sand, 11700 tones of armored steel, 99000 cubic meters of metal aggregates, 127000 cubic meters of tangible work 154308 cubic meters of soil work. This bridge has 231 girders each weigh 220 tones. This bridge is made over heap basics at 133 locations. The bridge has been constructed on 1.2 diametric piles determined to a normal intensity of 55 meters. The overall mass length is 65000 meters.
A sum of 12.5 hectares was acquired for the rail connection project work. The completion of this bridge led to the construction of a new railway station at Edappally. The name for this rail bridge was kept after the Vembanad River adjoining Kochi. India’s longest bridge on 8.86 km rail line connecting Edappally and Vallarpadam has been named Vembanad to make Kochi a worldwide sightseeing symbol.
