Munger Ganga Bridge
The Munger Ganga Bridge is considered to be a rail-cum-road bridge which is still under construction. The bridge is being built across the river Ganges, at Munger in the Indian state of Bihar.
Geography
The bridge being built at a cost of Rs. 9,300 million is situated some 55 km downstream of the Rajendra River near Mokama. It is also located at 68 km upstream of the Vikramshila Setu at Bhagalpur and is about 3.19 km long. When built, the bridge will be able to connect NH 80 on the southern side of the Ganges and NH 31 on the northern side of the Ganges. The line from the Sahebpur Kamal junction on the Barauni-Katihar section of East Central Railway and also that of the Jamalpur Junction on the Sahibganj Loop line of Eastern Railway will also be connected by the bridge.
Engineering Details
It was the Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee who inaugurated the construction of the bridge through the video conference system in 2002.
When built, the bridge will be the second longest rail Road Bridge which is situated in the state Bihar and also the third longest bridge of the country.
The work to complete the 3,190 meters long Munger railroad bridge over river Ganga is going on in full swing. It will be operational by the end of 2014. As per the work which has been completed on this bridge 10 spans on the southern side have been completed whereas there are about seven spans have been completed from north end. It is being built by the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd.
