Broken Bridge Chennai
The Broken Bridge is located in South India’s city - Chennai and the name describes that this is a bridge that does not connects any part of the city. It was in 1977 that the sturdy currents in the river it was built partly destroyed the bridge and since then no work to repair the bridge was ever conducted. The bridge came into existence to ease the travelling of fishermen who had to regularly travel between Santhome beach and Elliot’s beach that exist on the edge of Adyar river over which the bridge was constructed. This bridge during the current time acts as a hangout spot for youngsters. People come here to enjoy the beautiful sunrise. This area is declared unsafe after dark.
History
The bridge has been into existence since the year 1967. The bridge allowed fishermen located near Adyar River to cross the two ends by their cycles or rickshaw. This bridge was even used by four wheelers but being a narrow bridge only one vehicle at a time could cross the bridge. Fishermen generally could get numerous prawn and crab near the edges of the river. The river was like bread and butter for the fishermen, only till the time the river was unpolluted and getting the fishes, prawns and crabs was an easy task for these fishermen. It was only after 1977 when this bridge collapsed that people had to travel through the city for their livelihood. The bridge still holds the beauty for people of Chennai.
