Engineering Details
The bridge is touted to be a marvel of the architectural style of the Romans as it has the Roman style arches. It has been built by making use of the laterite stone. The area surrounding the bridge is known as Patto. The bridge has been built on the primordial Roman-style arched bridges. It is roughly about 2800 meters in length. You will still be able to see one or two of such arches. The bridge was built in a record one year’s time. It was when Spanish monarch of Portugal was the ruler that the construction of the bridge began. It was Dom Miguel de Noronha who gave the orders for building this bridge. The construction began in the year 1633. It was for this reason that the bridge has witnessed the history of Goa since 1634.
