Mattancherry Bridge
Constructed in Kochi in India's Kerala state, Mattancherry Bridge is a key landmark in this region to connect the mainland Cochin area with prominent Willingdon Island. Present Mattancherry Bridge is the most recent one which had been constructed in 1998. The very first bridge of the same name had already been constructed at this place during 1940s. Although, the old bridge still exists but it is meant to carry the smaller carriers only while the modern bridge is used for the rest including heavy vehicles commuting to and fro from the island area.
Distinction of Mattancherry Bridge is also because of its identity of being the first Kerala based build-operate-transfer Bridge. Greater Cochin Development Authority, state government of Kerala and Central Government of India took joint steps to make the bridge project a successful one to seek the attention of tourists and holidaymakers besides easing road communication issue for the locals.

Description of the Bridge
Built near the South Railways Station at a distance of approximately 6 kilometers, latest Mattancherry Bridge showcases the modern civil engineering concept. It mainly serves the people willing to connect to the Willington Islands. Early model of this bridge depicts true example of British engineering and architectural richness but the new one is entirely of Indian origin. It has been developed uniquely and does ensure that the middle of the bridge could be easily raised in case there is a need for bigger boats to pass under it.
