Vayalar Award

Established with an aim to recognize the literary contributions especially those considered outstanding in the regional literature from South Indian state of Kerala for the Malayalam language, Vayalar Award has gained immense popularity in the state to support and motivate the writers. History of Vayalar Award

Instituted in the year 1977, regional Vayalar Award has become an incalculable name in terms of its pivotal role to recognize the creative works of Malayalam writers in the Southern state of Kerala. Established in the memory of former lyricist cum poet, Vayalar Ramavarma, this award is managed and presented by a trust that has been registered on the same name. Vayalar Ramavarma Memorial Trust is one of the highly popular and prestigious literally institutions in the state that takes initiative to recognize and motivate Malayalam writers. It supports the writers who have contributed through their creative roles as writers in the Malayalam language.

Vayalar Award is presented to the deserving Malayalam literati in the form of silver plate and certificate indicating the award constituting recognition certificate with a financial reward of a sum totaling Indian Rupees 25,000. It is an annual award presented to winners on October 27 which is the death anniversary celebration of former poet Vayalar whose contributions are also remembered by the medium of this prominent award.
