Global Indian Film Awards

In order to honour and recognise talents in different fields of movie making in Indian Cinema, the concept of an awards ceremony on a global scale was mooted. Indian cinema is seen in various theatres across the globe. Indians residing in foreign countries have a keen interest in the movies produced and made in India. Not only are these movies entertaining to the foreign crowds, but it also makes all those Indians living outside India, feel proud of their home country. With this feeling in their mind, it would be better if the awards for their favourite movies are given in different parts of the globe. Conceptualisation of such an idea gave the start to the Global Indian Film Awards.

Beginning

Global India Film Awards was first started by the grand ceremony held in 2005 in Dubai. Dubai was the first global city because it truly represents a global scenario as it is one of the most developed cities of the world and house to many foreign people. Hence, it was decided by the organisers that Dubai would be the place where the GIFA awards would be organised. Moreover, the company handling the awards show, Global Events is located in Dubai. In 2006, it was held in Malaysia and in 2013, it has been decided to hold the function in Chicago.

Production Backing

Global Events, Dubai along with partnership of Popcorn Entertainment and scripted by Foursome Productions of India, organised the event of Global Indian Film Awards. Suniel Shetty, the Chairman of Popcorn Entertainment was a major figure in organising the awards show. The jury which decides the winners for different categories comprises of famous Indian film personalities like Jackie Shroff, Rati Agnihotri, Shyam Benegal, Sajid Nadiawala, Sandeep Chowta and Smita Thackeray.

Statuette

The award statuette given in the Global Indian Film Awards was made of gold of 24 carats, with features of 5 elements of the universe. This trophy was produced by Citigold Enterprises of Australia which is further certified by the global certification gold council for the purity of the metal.

Awards

Global Indian Film Awards is given out in 23 different categories of artistic and technical brilliance in Indian Cinema, mostly pertaining to Bollywood. Such awards are highly revered and sought by many people, as it establishes their supremacy in their respective fields. These categories are spread over best actor, actress, director, film, song, choreography and background score, music, art direction, cinematography and so on. Two very interesting and unique awards given out on this evening are the GIFA most searched male and female actors on Internet. GIFA awards are given for various contributions to the film industry and the awards night is also attended by lots of dignitaries from Indian film industry as well as personalities from the country in which the award ceremony is held. The awards ceremony is a part of the three day extravaganza which is held in different countries across the globe.
