History

The Members of the Association are drawn from the ranks and files of the entire Press of West Bengal which is made up of periodicals, dailies and even the film journals in the many different languages were taken out from Kolkata. Those Film correspondents and pundits working for any newspaper or periodicals published outside Bengal and have their base in Kolkata were eligible to become members of this Association.

It’s endeavor was to promote and encourage the production of better films immediately after a year of its inception when the 1st Motion Picture Congress took place in Faridpur which is now located in Bangladesh in the year of 1938. This association is fully represented at the Silver Jubilee of the Indian Cinema.

It was in the year of 1952 when India staged the First International Film Festival that an exhibition on a massive scale was held in the Kolkata Maidan. It was in this festival that exhibitions of many antique films on projector and film camera showing the growth of films as well as the development of the Indian Film Industry were exhibited. The association had its own stall where it showcased its many periodicals, magazines as well as the journals published from the city of Kolkata.
